ECC Arts Center Partners with Omaha Community Playhouse for a virtual ‘A Christmas Carol’
The Elgin Community College Arts Center has partnered with the nation’s largest community theatre, Omaha Community Playhouse, to bring you “A Christmas Carol.” This 45-year tradition has been adapted into a virtual theatrical performance for the entire family to enjoy. The performance is online now and can be viewed any time before January 3, 2020.

ECC Foundation Aims to Raise $100k for Student Success
With the start of the fall 2020 semester, the Elgin Community College Foundation is launching the Student Success Fund, an initiative meant to provide relief funding to students who face financial barriers as a result of the pandemic. With the success of the recent Emergency Student Relief Fund in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in assisting students, the Foundation wants to provide support for those students who aren’t yet on solid financial footing.

Elgin Community College’s Spartan Food Pantry is now open to current all ECC students, regardless of need. Reduced fall 2020 hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Project Backpack, a community effort to provide backpacks and supplies for families of District 509, looked a little different this year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Elgin Community College was unable to host the event as in years past. The committee worked to develop an alternative plan for supply delivery to those in need.

ECC student services offices open for in-person assistance on Saturday, August 22
Extended business hours will be available on campus at Elgin Community College to support students from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22. Offices that will be open include academic advising, admissions, registration, financial aid, student accounts, and first stop. The Saturday hours are offered to incoming and returning ECC students who would like in-person assistance before the start of classes on Monday, Aug. 24.
ECC’s Continuing Education Department Unveils Robust Fall Offerings
Elgin Community College’s Continuing Education Department has released the fall 2020 non-credit course schedule. Most courses begin in September, and range from single day to semester long. All classes are offered remotely at this time.

ECC Offers Virtual Admissions Presentations

ECC Announces Plans for Fall 2020 Semester
In response to the uncertainty of many variables associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, Elgin Community College has made the difficult decision to convert the majority of face-to-face courses for the fall 2020 semester to online courses. Specialized lab courses, where the face-to-face component is essential, will be offered on campus but may also include online learning.

Elgin Community College reopens Small Business Development Center
The Illinois Small Business Development Center (Illinois SBDC) at Elgin Community College has recently reopened. The Illinois SBDC has provided no-cost business advising to existing and prospective business owners in the community for over 30 years. As a result of Governor Pritzker’s recent announcement to extend the state’s current “stay-at-home” order through Thursday, April 30, Elgin Community College will remain closed to the public until Monday, May 04. Consequently, the college will continue to provide academic, financial, and student support services remotely. Please see the attached updated Support Services Resource Guide. Most services will utilize phone, email, and/or Google Hangouts* as modes of communication.
Return to Campus Date is May 4, 2020
Employees with essential responsibilities, as notified by their supervisors, will work remotely until we return to campus on Monday, May 04. All class instruction will continue to be delivered through alternative delivery formats for the remainder of the spring semester. Although Governor Pritzker’s Stay-at-Home order is currently in effect through Tuesday, April 7, please remember instruction resumes on March 30, 2020, in alternative learning formats (remotely) for most courses, with the exception of some lab courses and other specialized courses. No on-campus classes will be in session the week of March 30.

ECC hosts high school robotics championship competition Feb. 23, public welcome
For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Illinois Robotics will hold 2020 Illinois FIRST Tech Challenge Championship Tournament at Elgin Community College on Friday, February 21 and Saturday, February 22. The tournament will take place in Building J, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. Friday night is for setup and judges’ inspections from 6:30 to 9 pm. Saturday begins the tournament rounds, with the finals set for Saturday afternoon.
Civil rights foot soldier brings his story to ECC on Feb. 18

Two ECC basketball players reach 1,000 career points within weeks of each other
On Saturday, Feb. 1, Mariel Franco became the second ECC basketball player to reach 1,000 career points this year. Men’s basketball player Kelvin Cortez-Harvey achieved this same feat just a few weeks prior.

ECC students can spend their summer in Italy
Elgin Community College, in partnership with Centro Studi Italiani, is proud to offer a new, faculty-led summer study abroad program in Urbania, Italy. The program provides students an immersive experience to learn the Italian language and culture. The four-week program runs from May 17 to June 14, 2020.
Fall 2019 Academic Scholars
Together, the President of ECC and the Assistant Vice President of Student Services and Development/Dean of Students recognizes the level of high academic scholarship demonstrated by 3,131 students during the Fall 2019 semester. This recognition will appear on a student's grade report and on a student's transcript.
The Long Red Line now accepting submissions for Juried Art Exhibit
The Long Red Line is Elgin’s expression of One Billion Rising, a global movement of women and their allies rising to end rape, violence, interpersonal domination and oppression against women. To further raise awareness and honor survivors and community support, The Long Red Line is offering an art exhibit from April 1-30, 2020. ECC students, staff, and community members are invited to submit their artwork for the exhibit. Artwork must embody the mission and theme of The Long Red Line.

Elgin Community College’s Multicultural and Global Initiatives Committee (MAGIC) will present a new series, “Confronting Racism Head On,” online as a follow-up to the successful summer series “Black Lives Matter.” Part I of this new series, ‘Racism on Display,’ is scheduled for Thursday, August 6, at 2 pm.
