Five-time Grammy-winning bassist Victor Wooten returns to Elgin Community College with an expanded version of his Music Lesson Workshop on Friday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. The workshops are free and will be live-streamed on the ECC Arts Center Facebook page and YouTube Channel. The workshops will only be available during the live-stream.
Wooten’s workshops are designed for both seasoned musicians and beginners. Based on concepts from his new book, The Spirit of Music: The Lesson Continues, Wooten shares with participants insights to understanding music and the threats it faces in today’s world.
Wooten, now a five-time Grammy winner, became internationally known in the early 1990s as a founding member of the super-group Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Wooten has also become widely known for his Grammy-nominated solo recordings and tours.
Wooten released his first book, The Music Lesson: A Spiritual Search for Growth Through Music, in 2006. The Music Lesson is a story of a struggling young musician who wanted music to be his life and wanted his life to be great. A sequel, The Spirit of Music: The Lesson Continues, is available now through pre-order on Amazon.
