Important Update from Elgin Community College
On Saturday, May 30, Elgin Community College learned that an employee, who worked on campus this week, was exposed to COVID-19 by a family member. Even though the employee had limited contact with other employees on campus and adhered to safety guidelines, such as wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing, the employee and employees in the same department have been instructed to self-isolate for 14 days. The employee has not exhibited any COVID-19 symptoms and is currently awaiting testing.
Please note that the employee did not visit any campus areas where classes are convening this summer. For the health and safety of all, the college will conduct an additional deep cleaning of campus facilities on tomorrow (Sunday, May 31). Due to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and out of respect for the employee, the college cannot share any additional information.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, reach out to Dr. Toya Webb, chief marketing and communications officer, at twebb@elgin.edu. For information related to emergency management, contact Emily Kies, senior director of emergency management, at ekies@elgin.edu.
