Academic Residency

Administrative Procedure 1.301

Academic Residency refers to the number of credit hours a student must complete at Elgin Community College (ECC) to be eligible for a degree or certificate.

Academic Residency Requirement for University Transfer Degrees:

  • A minimum of 15 semester hours of credit courses completed at ECC and numbered 100 or above, excluding Advanced Placement (AP), College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and proficiency credits.

Academic Residency Requirement for Associate of Applied Science Degrees:

  • A minimum of 15 semester hours of degree-requirement credit completed at ECC and numbered 100 and above, six of which must also be discipline specific, excluding AP, CLEP and proficiency credits.

Academic Residency Requirement for Certificates:

  • One-fourth of the curriculum requirements, but no less than eight semester hours of credit must have been completed at ECC, excluding AP, CLEP and proficiency credits.
  • If the certificate requires less than eight semester hours, all courses must be completed at ECC.
