ECC Strings Ensemble

The ECC Strings Ensemble (CSX123) provides players opportunities to develop ensemble skills, refine technique, and explore diverse repertoire ranging from classical masterworks to contemporary and cross‑genre works. The collaborative environment fosters connection, leadership, and creativity, creating a strong sense of belonging within the campus arts community. Students often value strings ensemble as a rewarding way to stay artistically engaged, build friendships, and enrich their college experience through shared musical expression. This ensemble is open to all qualified adults as well as college and high school students. Refer to the Continuing Education Catalog for class meeting times. Classes are offered each fall and spring semester.

Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra

The Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestras (EYSO), an In-Residence Ensemble and partner organization of Elgin Community College (ECC), is one of the largest and most respected youth orchestra programs in the region, serving students from fourth grade through college. EYSO offers a rich continuum of ensembles—including three symphonic orchestras, two string orchestras, Brass and Flute Choirs, Percussion Ensembles, and a Chamber Music Institute—providing access to high-level repertoire ranging from classical masterworks to contemporary music. Under the guidance of expert conductors, students benefit from a structured progression that fosters musical excellence, creativity, collaboration, and personal growth. Beyond performance, EYSO emphasizes a supportive, close-knit community where students build confidence, critical thinking skills, and lifelong friendships, with rehearsals held on ECC’s main campus and participants enrolled in college classes.
