How to Use the Assistive Listening Device (ALD ) / Personal Amplification Device

It can be challenging to hear speakers if there is background noise, if there is reverberation (echoing of sound), or if the speaker is far away in the room.

With advance notice, ECC offers assistive listening devices (ALD)/personal amplification devices to individuals, who are hard of hearing, to use during an in-person event or meeting in these rooms:

Here’s how it works:

  1. Attendees, who are hard of hearing, should contact the event host at least 1 week before the event or meeting to request to use an ALD.
  2. The speaker in the room should use a microphone.
  3. The attendee will wear a neckloop or headset.
    1. Neckloop: Individuals who have hearing aids or cochlear implants with telecoils or t-switches may use the neckloop [Please contact your audiologist or hearing care specialist to inquire if you have a telecoil or t-switch in your hearing aid(s) or cochlear implant(s)].
    2. Headset: Individuals, who do not have a telecoil or t-switch in their hearing aid(s) or cochlear implant(s), may use a headset.
  4. Attendees will receive a handheld device and can adjust the volume of the speaker based on their preference.
  5. Attendees will return their device to the event host at the end of the event or meeting.
