Elgin Community College (ECC) will host its first Bilingual Candidate Forum on Thursday, October 17, from 5 to 7 pm, in Building E, Room E121, at Spartan Drive Campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin, Illinois. This event,co-sponsored by ECC’s Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) and Centro de Informacion of Elgin, is designed to engage the community and encourage students to vote in the November 5 General Election.

Attendees are invited to learn about the Kane County Board Chair and Kane County State’s Attorney elected positions. Candidates will present their platforms during the student-moderated forum, and Spanish interpretation will be available.

“At a time of intense polarization, it’s important that our community be able to come together to discuss important political issues in a civil way. That’s what CCE does so well,” said Antonio Ramirez, PhD, associate professor of history and Director of the Center for Civic Engagement. “This forum gives candidates the unique opportunity to respond to the concerns of students and the immigrant community in Kane County, voices that are often overlooked.”

Attendees will also be able to register to vote. The YWCA of Elgin, a supporter of the event, will run this.
