Common Registration Problems
Registering for courses at ECC is easy—especially if you plan.
Summer and fall semester registration begins in April, and signing up for the spring semester begins in November. Some classes fill quickly, so register early to reserve your spot in class. The better prepared you are on registration day, the smoother the process will go. Here are some of the most common registration issues, along with solutions.
Most services are available online by using the accessECC portal. However, please use our chat system or email us at registration@elgin.edu so we can assist you with registration-related questions and get you back on track.
No Application for Admission on File
If you’re an incoming student, you must apply for admission before registering for classes or email admissions@elgin.edu.
You must reapply if you have previously attended ECC and are returning after two or more years of hiatus.
Providing Proof of Residency
Email us a picture of your Illinois driver’s license or state ID to confirm that you reside within the district. We'll promptly inform you once the residency verification process is complete. If you don't possess an Illinois DL or state ID reflecting your current address, please refer to our list of alternative acceptable documents. See the Student Residency Policy for details.
Prerequisites
Before registering for a course, you must meet certain prerequisites. You can fulfill these requirements by demonstrating college-ready reading, writing, and math skills. See placement tests for additional information.
Tuition and Fees
To finalize enrollment and stay in your chosen classes, you can pay your tuition in full, sign up for our online payment plan, or complete your financial aid package by the published due dates.
Outstanding Financial Obligations
If you have unpaid fees, such as tuition, parking, or library fines, you won't be able to sign up for classes. Make sure to settle all your financial responsibilities, including any outstanding balances, by the end of each semester or summer session.
Update Your Name
To update your student information, please submit the Student Information Changes form and legal documentation of your name change via email or in person at B105. Additionally, you can modify your preferred name, personal pronouns, gender identity, phone number, and address through the AccessECC portal by following the provided instructions.
