Admissions Procedures
The Surgical Technology program is a four-semester Associate of Applied Science degree program. It is a limited enrollment program that admits students according to clinical site openings each August. All candidates are evaluated using a specialized admission procedure. Students must submit admission materials and meet admission requirements before the application is considered for review. After the deadline, students will be notified by letter via email of their status (accepted, waiting list, or incomplete requirements). The screening process takes approximately one to two weeks. The Surgical Technology AAS program admits one time per year. Fall only, June 1 application deadline for Fall admission.

- Submit all official transcripts from other colleges/universities you attended (required). Request an official evaluation of prior high school or college transcripts.
- Meet with a Health Professions Academic Advisor (required). Schedule an appointment online.
- Attend a Surgical Technology Information Session (recommended). See the upcoming schedule.
- Complete and submit a health professions application after prerequisites are completed (required)
Screening Process
To be considered for admission to the Surgical Technology program, students must earn a:
- Grade of C or better in HPE-112, BIO-110, and BIO-245 or equivalent.
Note: Students who have earned a grade of C or better in BIO 240 or BIO 245/BIO 246 are not required to complete BIO 110.
Prerequisite Ranking Criteria
- HPE112 (or equivalent) will be given points based on their letter grade:
- A = 18 points
- B = 12 points
- C = 6 points
- BIO110 (or equivalent) will be given points based on their letter grade:
- A = 24 points
- B = 16 points
- C = 8 points
- BIO245 (or equivalent) will be given points based on their letter grade:
- A = 24 points
- B = 16 points
- C = 8 points
Students who have earned a grade of C or better in BIO 246 and/or BIO 265 will get additional points added to their score and follow the same points value as BIO110 and BIO245.
Note: Health professions programs require criminal background checks, drug testing, and specific medical requirements, including updated vaccinations. Students who demonstrate a positive background check or positive drug test will be denied admission to health professions programs. Students who demonstrate a positive background check or positive drug test while enrolled in health professions programs will be dismissed.
