Respiratory Care Program Admissions

Admissions Procedures

Approximately 15 students will be admitted to the Respiratory Care program each spring semester. The application deadline is October 15. Applicants must ensure all admission materials are submitted by the deadline and meet all admission requirements.

Entrance Requirements Courses
Entrance Requirements before submitting your respiratory care program application (minimum grade of C required):
  • BIO 110 or BIO 113 (or equivalent)
  • BIO 240 (or equivalent completed within last 10 years with grade) or
  • BIO 245 (or equivalent completed within last 10 years with grade) &
  • BIO 246 (or equivalent completed within last 10 years with grade)
General Education Courses that will need to be completed within the program (not required to start), but highly recommended to take before entering the program for Bonus Admission (Application) Points:
Additional Courses recommended, but not required for entrance to the Respiratory Program or Graduation, but additional points are awarded towards Admission (Application):

Program Requirements

  • Apply with ECC - how to apply.
  • Official high school transcripts, GED scores, or equivalent from the country of origin.
  • Official college transcripts from other colleges attended
  • Complete and submit health professions application.
  • Applicants must be legal residents of Community College District 509. Working in District 509 does not meet this requirement. International students on an F-1 visa are not eligible to apply to the Respiratory Care program.
  • Students must achieve a grade of C or better in all respiratory care and general education courses. Students must provide their own uniforms and transportation to and from all clinical sites.
  • Students must submit medical forms, required titers, immunizations, proof of health insurance, and BLS CPR certification within 45 days. Additionally, drug testing and criminal background checks must be completed through the CastleBranch system before starting the Respiratory Care program.
  • Students demonstrating a positive drug test or background check will be denied admission to the Respiratory Care program.
  • Students who demonstrate positive drug tests or background checks while enrolled in the Respiratory Care program will be dismissed.

The respiratory care program is seeking accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Respiratory Care (CoARC). Visit the CoARC website.
