Human and Public Services
ECC helps you gain hands-on experience and make meaningful connections in the field.
Human and public service careers are about serving people and communities. Elgin Community College offers diverse human services programs for various careers, from individual courses to degrees and certificates. These programs prepare you for careers in social work, counseling, mental health, occupational therapy, and more.
ECC offers programs to help improve people's quality of life by enhancing their daily routines and overall well-being. You’ll experience educational and experiential learning methods in assessment, social policy, and treatment. You’ll also learn about the profession’s rules and regulations and develop personal and professional self-awareness.
ECC’s Field Experience Program offers students a wide range of internship opportunities with nearly 100 organizations across four counties. Clinical skills are developed along with analytic and advocacy abilities. Plus, you can transfer to a bachelor’s program at a university after completing an Associate Degree. All courses are taught by experienced instructors in the human services field. Some certificate programs are exclusive to former addicts, enabling them to serve as role models and support others in long-term recovery.
