About TRiO

The TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) and TRiO Support Services/ESL programs aim to support underrepresented students. These programs help students prepare for the successful completion of their college education. These programs are designed to provide academic, financial, and personal support to students facing unique challenges in higher education. TRiO SSS/ESL specifically supports eligible students learning English, enrolling in mainstream classes, and attending ECC. TRiO provides tailored services like tutoring, academic advising, career counseling, and financial literacy workshops. These resources empower students to confidently navigate their academic journey and achieve success. TRiO offers individualized support and fosters an inclusive environment to help students reach their full potential. The program aims to help students overcome obstacles and graduate with the skills needed for future success. The program builds a community where students connect with peers and mentors focused on their academic and personal growth.

  • Career exploration and assessment.
  • Tutorial support and services.
  • Financial and economic literacy.
  • Assistance with college applications and transfer.
  • Visits to four-year institutions.
  • Various workshops.
  • Leadership development activities.
  • Cultural and social events.
  • Referral to college and community support services.
  • Computer and study lounge access at TRiO offices.

Program Eligibility

TRiO services are available to individuals who:

  1. Are U.S. citizens or permanent residents
  2. Are registered ECC students.
  3. Meet one or more of the following requirements:
    • First-generation college student (neither parent(s)/legal guardian(s) graduated from a four-year college or university in the U.S.).
    • Demonstrated financial need.
    • Documented learning or physical disability(ies).
    • English as a Second Language.

I am a civic engagement leader, coauthor of Experiential Learning and Teaching in Higher Education 2025 edition (ELTHE), Black Student Achievers associate, a 2024 Black Excellence recipient, TRiO participant/advocate, mentee of Purposes with Purpose, and favored by many staff on campus.
