ECC’s Student Life Kicks Off Fall Semester with Space-Themed Events

It’s the first week of classes for Fall 2025, and Elgin Community College’s Office of Student Life has planned numerous special welcome events to help get the fall started right.

This year includes an intergalactic space theme!

Movie Under the Lightsabers

This Thursday, August 21, from 5 to 8 pm, students can watch Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. The film will be shown on the Spartan Drive campus in Building B in the Jobe Lounge. Student Life encourages students to come dressed in their favorite character costume and prepare for a Chewbacca roar contest, complete with dinner and lightsaber fun. The film will also be shown at 11 am on Thursday with snacks and crafts available. 

Rolling into Orbit

On Monday, August 25, from 10 am to 1 pm, the office will host a roller-skating event titled “Rolling into Orbit,” where Jobe Longe will be turned into a roller rink. Don't forget your skates!

Journey through the Cosmos

On Tuesday, August 26, from 11 am to 2 pm, a portable planetarium will be available for viewing in the Jobe Lounge. This activity will also include a puzzle table and snack bar. Bring a friend or meet a new one there. 

Clubchella and Food Truck Day

The event on Wednesday, August 27, from 11 am to 1:30 pm will feature a multitude of food trucks at the Lakeside Patio outside Building B. Available food trucks include Pinoy Grill, Mexican Cuisine Mamalicious, Bubble Tea Beverages, and Authentic Filipino Cuisine La Cantrina. ECC clubs and organizations will also have information tables available for students to get involved at the Building B Walkway and in the Lakeside Lounge. 

Astro Trivia Night

Student Life will also hold an “Astro Trivia Night” on Thursday, August 28, from 5 to 7 pm in the Jobe Lounge. Registration is required, and groups of up to four people are welcome to participate. Registration can be found here.
