2021 - ECC Writers Center Reading Series Present Fall 2021 Line Up

The Writers Center at Elgin Community College will host three authors for the Fall 2021 Reading Series. Due to ongoing social distancing practices, the events will take place virtually. All readings begin at 7:30 p.m.

On Thursday, September 16, the fall Reading Series kicks off with Edvige Guinta, author of “Writing with an Accent: Contemporary Italian American Women Authors” and co-editor of several anthologies, including the forthcoming “Talking to Girls: Intimate and Political Essays on the Triangle Fire.” Her articles, literary nonfiction, and poetry have appeared in many anthologies and journals and magazines such as Assay, Creative Nonfiction, Barrow Street, and Mutha Magazine. She is a Professor of English at New Jersey City University, where she trains students in the art of memoir.

Author David Jauss joins the series on Thursday, October 21. Jauss is the author of four collections of short stories, “Crimes of Passion,” “Black Maps,” “Glossolalia: New & Selected Stories,” and “Nice People: New & Selected Stories II.” He has published two volumes of poetry, “Improvising Rivers” and “You Are Not Here,” and a collection of essays, “Alone With All That Could Happen: Rethinking Conventional Wisdom about the Craft of Fiction.” Jauss received a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. A professor emeritus at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, he teaches in the Master of Fine Arts writing program at Vermont College of Fine Arts.

The final fall reader will be Tiana Clark on Thursday, November 11. Clark is the author of the poetry collection “I Can’t Talk About the Trees Without the Blood” and “Equilibrium.” Clark won the 2020 Kate Tufts Discovery Award (Claremont Graduate University), a 2019 National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellow, and the 2015 Rattle Poetry Prize. She is the recipient of the 2021-2022 Amy Lowell Poetry Traveling Scholarship and the 2019 Pushcart Prize. Her writing has appeared in or is forthcoming from The New Yorker, Poetry Magazine, The Atlantic, and The Washington Post. Clark is the Grace Hazard Conkling Writer-in-Residence at Smith College in Northampton, Mass.
