Admissions Procedures

All candidates must submit an official high school transcript or GED scores and official transcripts from other colleges/universities attended.

The Phlebotomy Program has a rolling application process; students are admitted in the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. Students are encouraged to apply at least a month before the start of a new semester.

Requirements

Proof of high school diploma and one of the following:

  • Reading: grade of C or better in RDG 091 or LTC 099, or satisfaction of other placement criteria

Application Process

  1. If you have never taken a credit class at ECC, you must complete an ECC application for admission before submitting this Health Professions Application. Get more information on how to apply.)
  2. Complete the Health Professions Application.

Please note that the Elgin Community College Phlebotomy Program is designed to provide high-quality, hands-on training for a phlebotomy career. Because of the Phlebotomy Program’s rigorous nature and strong clinical partnerships, this program has limited enrollment and uses a competitive application process to determine acceptance.

Prospective Phlebotomy students are encouraged to carefully review the details on the program’s webpage, where you’ll find clear information about qualifications, selection criteria, and how admissions decisions are made. The goal is to be transparent and help you understand how to best prepare for success.

As part of our commitment to serving the local community, ECC prioritizes admission for in-district students and those eligible for in-district tuition, in accordance with the Student Residency Administrative Procedure 4.102.

I invite you to explore the Phlebotomy Program’s page or meet with an academic advisor to learn more and begin your path toward a rewarding career in healthcare.

Note: Health professions programs require criminal background checks, drug testing, and specific medical requirements, including updated vaccinations. Students who demonstrate a positive background check or positive drug test will be denied admission to health professions programs. Students who demonstrate a positive background check or positive drug test while enrolled in health professions programs will be dismissed.
