ECC Student Sienna Hughes

Elgin Community College dual credit student, Sienna Hughes, has always known she was meant for the spotlight. She was part of the ECC theatre production of “Our Town” last semester and is taking three theatre classes right now.

Hughes is in her last semester at Hampshire High School and at ECC.

“I came to ECC because of my mom. She saw the dual credit program and couldn’t believe how much money we would save,” Hughes said. “So, I will get my diploma and associate degree at the same time and get tons of college experience.”

In addition to being on stage, she is also an ECC employee in the catering department. There was a time when her schedule was quite jammed, but she made it work.

“That time was crazy between classes, work, and the play, but I made it work,” Hughes said. “The theatre department is so great, it was a very good experience.”

After ECC, Hughes will head to Columbia College in Chicago, where she plans on studying screen and stage acting with her eyes set on being a screen actress.

Find out more about Sienna below!

What is one thing you do outside of ECC? I enjoy writing. I usually write creative non-fiction or poetry.

What is one of your study habits? I find flashcards to be very helpful, either paper cards or Quizlet. I go through them until I know the material.

What is one thing that really makes my day? Today I feel pretty lucky. I got Starbucks, I saw my co-worker in line behind me, and the gym wasn’t super crowded.

What is your favorite spot on campus? I like the library when I am working by myself. There is a room upstairs that has all the windows. I think that is my favorite spot.

What is your favorite thing about ECC? I knew it was going to be different than high school, everyone here is so relaxed. There are no cliques. Everyone here is in the same boat.

What advice do you have for new students? Don’t overthink it, especially because ECC has so many resources. There are so many great people to help, and so much is available at all times. And stay organized!
