ECC Student Lynn Singh
Elgin Community College dual credit student Lynn Singh was surprised by the sense of community at ECC and impressed by the quantity and quality of campus events.
"My first semester, I took a lot of hybrid courses, so I was kind of in and out of campus,” Singh said. “This semester I am on campus all the time, and there is always something happening.”
Singh is focusing on an associate of applied science in education while she is at ECC. With a passion for helping others and shaping the minds of the future, she hopes to continue at Northern Illinois University (NIU) via the PLEDGE program. The program allows students to complete their bachelor's degree from NIU without leaving ECC’s campus.
“The education department here is so supportive. I have made so many friends in the program,” Singh said.
She also owns a photography business that keeps her busy. She enjoys photographing senior portraits, family events, and sports photography, but travel photography is her passion. Additionally, Singh was recently elected to serve as the 2026-2027 student trustee. She will be sworn in at the April Board of Trustees meeting.

What is one of your study hacks or habits? I write everything down. Staying organized is the most important part; the classwork is manageable if you stay on top of it. I keep a notebook on me at all times. If I need to remember something, I will write it down. Then I go through my notes and organize them.
Dogs, cats, or houseplants? I have a dog named Millie; she is my baby. She is a Yorkie. I also have two cats.
What is one thing that really makes your day? Smiling at someone, and they smile back. That does it for me. I love it when people are open.
What is your favorite meal to cook or eat out? The mushroom ravioli from Maggiano’s, it is so good. There is a mushroom cream sauce and mushrooms in the ravioli. So good!
What surprised you about ECC? The community. I was expecting to go into college, everyone always says that it is so independent, but I got here, and everyone is so open, and all you have to do is say “Hi!”
Would you like to give a shout-out to any ECC staff, faculty, or peer? Dr. Raval. She has pushed me to do a lot of things; her class is an intro to education class, but we have a lot of tough and deep conversations. Who I want to be as a teacher, why I want to be a teacher, things like that.
