ECC Student and Wellness Peer Jaloni Williams
Elgin Community College student and Wellness Peer Jaloni Williams came to ECC because she was unsure of what path she wanted to take. It wasn’t until she came across sociology that things came into place.
Williams got the position as a wellness peer by visiting the ECC Wellness Center. “After talking to one of the wellness professionals and explaining what I was hoping to do, they encouraged me to apply,” Williams said.
The experience has been good for Williams; it pushed her out of her comfort zone in a positive way. The position allows her to continue with her classes and has the flexibility a student needs.
Now in her second-to-last semester at ECC, Williams can see how much different college is from high school. “High school was a challenge, I didn’t take time to reflect on what I wanted to do or give college much thought,” Williams said.
Being a first-generation college student, Williams enrolled in TRiO, a program that supports underrepresented students. “I graduated from high school in 2021, I didn’t have the opportunity to visit college campuses, I have gotten to do that, and so much more, with TRiO,” Williams said.
Williams has been accepted to Northern Illinois University and looks forward to continuing to explore psychology. She hopes to work for a large practice before branching out on her own.
