While some might say that growth is not something that happens overnight, for me at ECC, growth felt like something I was constantly experiencing. As I began at ECC in the summer of 2022, I was fearful and uncertain of the journey that was ahead of me. I did know one thing, however: I did not want to be the same shy and timid person I was before. I wanted to improve and let people see who I was behind it all.
As I began my first semester, I sought ways to challenge myself to improve. As I explored campus to find resources and people who could help point me on my way to success, I stumbled upon Student Life. This immediately felt like a call to action for me as I knew there were some goals I wanted to overcome. The clubs and organizations were a great way to connect with fellow students with similar interests. I eventually started getting involved and breaking out of my shell. After attending many meetings and getting a feel for club life, I decided to become a leader to help me grow further and keep improving.
Now graduating, I have been extremely involved and feel like with every day I have improved more and more. I have held many leadership positions, such as the Secretary of Spartan Christian Fellowship, Treasurer of United Students of All Cultures, President of United Students of All Cultures, and my final role as President of Student Government.
These roles were crucial in my growth and improvement in my leadership skills. I met many wonderful people and had the privilege of getting to know them on a personal level. This college is truly incredible, and I encourage anyone seeking a place to start their higher education to attend ECC.
There are countless people I wish to extend my gratitude toward: Professors, students, acquaintances, mentors, friends, and family. I have been blessed to meet all of you and can’t express my gratitude enough for your influence in my life.
As I move forward on my journey, I wish to leave these statements for those who follow.
Be yourself and don’t be afraid to face new challenges. You will face hard times. Not every day will feel like a victory, not every day will you win, but there is much more strength in those who do not quit and continue to persevere towards success. Finally, while I know you want to succeed and keep growing, make time to take care of yourself. You are precious and deserve to be happy.
