Lauren Sullivan stands next to her Orlando Bloom poster
Lauren Sullivan, unit adjunct librarian, has worked at ECC for four years, but her start here goes back much further. “I grew up in Elgin, doing children’s theatre. I have performed on the Blizzard stage.”
She recalls that when she became employed by ECC, her contact phone number was listed as her mom’s landline. “I definitely changed that right away!” she laughed.
Lauren, her husband, and two cats moved around quite a bit for a few years before returning to the Elgin area. Happy to be back in the community she loves, Sullivan said that the students are really what make ECC so special.
“The students here are so unique and diverse. They are so grateful and kind. It is so much more pleasant than places I have been previously.”
Sullivan also mentioned a mysterious benefactor who places miniature gnomes around the library’s workroom. “None of us know who it is, but it's really fun when another appears.”
Find out a little more about this word wizard below.
What is the theme of your space? Nerd haven, it is little bit of everything I love.
What is your favorite thing in here and why? Definitely the Orlando Bloom poster. He is like our paper doll, so we give him different accessories every season. Right now, it is a little flower crown. Last year, at Christmas time, he had an elf hat. He even had eclipse glasses last year.
Where is your snack stash and what is your go to? I don’t really have a snack stash! Heather keeps a candy jar on her desk, so she keeps us all happy. My favorite is always a Twix!
Do you listen to anything while you’re working? I generally don’t because we have very collaborative work so I need to keep at least an ear open. My favorite podcast to listen to “Ologies with Alie Ward,” every episode she interviews a different –ologist. I learn something every episode.
What office supplies are you obsessed with? Laminators! The number one office supply, I will stand by that.
What is something unexpected on your desk? This little mushroom...is a vacuum! So, I can take care of my crumbs.
