ECC Student Owen Kaldenberger

Elgin Community College student Owen Kaldenberger, of Elgin, graduated from Larkin High School in 2024. Kaldenberger has always been interested in manufacturing, initially considering the automotive industry.

“I came to ECC because of the welding program, and it is so close to home,” Kaldenberger said. “Welding has always interested me. So far, my experience has been really good. The instructors are so nice. My favorite thing to learn to do is TIG welding.”

TIG welding is a process in which the welder uses a specialized TIG torch and foot pedal to control the amperage. The process produces some of the highest-quality welds and requires a high skill level. It can be done on almost any metal, resulting in a very clean weld.

After completing the program, Kaldenberger hopes to start a career as a fabricator.
