Meet Me Monday: Tori

Elgin Community College freshman Tori Ruffin came to ECC from San Antonio, Texas. “Everything in Texas is bigger — school, sports, and homecoming,” Ruffin said. “I think it prepared me for collegiate life.”  

She was recruited to play basketball for ECC. The first thing that struck her was the size of the campus and how beautiful it is. She hopes to continue to grow and develop her skills. Ruffin hopes to transfer to a four-year university where she can play D1 basketball. “I am undecided where right now, but that is the goal.” 

Ruffin has a knack for social media and marketing already. She has been working with the basketball coaches and hopes to team up with the ECC Communications team to collaborate on some social media posts to get more people to attend the ECC basketball games.

What is one thing you do outside of ECC? I love to bedazzle Crocs. I have made a few, but I am not ready to go all in, but I do sell them. 

What is one of your study hacks or habits? I like to get my work done as fast as possible. I will summarize each point in a bullet. 

What is one thing that really makes your day? Being here! Socializing, playing basketball, and getting to do what I love. 

What is your favorite meal to cook or eat out? I love seafood boils. 

What is your favorite spot on campus? I like Spartan Corner with the egg chairs. It is nice to study there. 

Would you like to give a shout out to any ECC staff, faculty, or peer? Dr. Mae Hicks is an amazing professor. She reaches out to a lot of people, she is really connected, she has brought in people to speak to us, and that has really helped me. She is so involved in the community as well. 

Any advice for new students? Get your work done early, don’t procrastinate. Getting it done is so much easier than waiting until the last minute.
