ECC Student Brynn Copp

Elgin Community College student, Brynn Copp, graduated from St. Charles East High School with memories of fun and friends. As a member of the newspaper, moving up to Editor-in-Chief her senior year, Copp was able to expand her social skills and move outside of her comfort zone.

“Coming out of the pandemic, I was very introverted during my freshman year,” Copp said. “Being able to interview some really cool people helped me so much.”

She became involved in Operation Snowball, a student-led initiative that empowers teens to make healthy choices and has amassed a great friend group.

“I love talking to them; we are all there for each other,” Copp said.

As she prepared for life beyond high school, she always had ECC on her mind. Being so close to home and the most affordable option, checked the boxes for Copp.

“I didn’t want to go into my 20s with thousands of dollars of debt,” Copp said.

Copp, who is studying accounting, is beginning to explore transfer options. She hopes to move to a four-year university and pursue a CPA (certified public accountant) degree, but for now, she is enjoying all the ECC has to offer. You can often find her in The Write Place or near the poetry wall. Taking a lighter load next semester, she hopes to join the honors society and the fiber arts club.

What is one thing you do outside of ECC? I am in a rock band, I play guitar, and I sing.

What is one of your study hacks or habits? I go straight home from school and take a minute to decompress, but I try to get a lot done during the day. My friend and I have been exploring the different places around campus; I discovered the silent room in the library last week.

What is one thing that really makes your day? Seeing my friends. I really found a good high school group in my junior and senior year so finally having that friend group, hearing about their day, really brightens mine.

What is your favorite meal to cook or eat out? I am loving pot roast. The potatoes and carrots, they are the best.

Would you like to give a shout out to an ECC staff, faculty, or peer? My friend Boston for always being very energetic and kind. Every time we walk through the hallways, he knows everyone.

What advice do you have for new students? Don’t be afraid to talk to new people. I am still working on that, but everyone here is really nice.
