A student sits in the library

Daisy Rios has always known she wanted to work in the medical field. After completing her GED at Elgin Community College, she did just that for almost a decade. Remembering how welcoming everyone was in the classes she had taken, she decided to come back to ECC to pursue a basic vocational certificate in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

“ECC is very close to my home, but I took a few credit courses before, and I couldn’t believe how far you could go,” Rios said. “And everyone is so nice!”

Returning to ECC in fall 2024, Rios has completed her prerequisites and is waiting to apply to the MRI program. She applied to be a student worker in the Renner Academic Library to fill some of her time. “The library is one of my favorite places. It is so quiet and peaceful.”

Find out about this magnetic personality below!

What is one thing you do outside of ECC? I also work at a gym now, so I am starting to work out, but I am very family-oriented, so I see my family quite a bit.

What is one of your study hacks or habits? I like to study outside of my house. I study better anywhere that isn’t my home.

What is one thing that really makes your day? A really great coffee. My go-to is an iced white mocha with sweet cream foam and caramel drizzle.

Shout out to an ECC faculty, staff, or peer? All of my spring semester professors. They were tough classes; without their knowledge and help, I wouldn’t have done as well as I did.
