When Elgin Community College (ECC) student Nolan Wright took environmental science in his senior year of high school, he found his career path. As an animal and outdoor lover, Wright enrolled in ECC’s energy management program in the fall of 2024.
“I love it here,” said Wright, who is pursuing an Associate of Applied Science degree in Renewable Energy. “All of the teachers are super cool. They make the class very enjoyable for everyone, and it’s really fun.”
Wright hopes to work in a greenhouse one day with plants and animals. In addition to his love for nature, he’s also a trumpet player in the ECC Concert Band and the ECC Jazz Band.
“I’ve been playing the trumpet since fifth grade,” Wright said. “When I came to ECC, I knew I wanted to carry it with me.”
Once Wright finishes up at ECC, he’s considering staying a little longer to focus on the biology courses to increase his knowledge in that area. Learn more about this nature lover below!
What’s one thing you do outside of ECC? I work at Tilly’s, a clothing store in Geneva Commons. I’ll have been working there for a year in a couple of weeks. I love it there!
Where’s your favorite spot on campus? Building O, I barely go into the main buildings. I’ve been there a few times to eat, but I know everyone in this building, so I feel more at home.
Where’s one place you dream of travelling and why? I’d like to visit Guatemala because it’s where I am from. I haven’t been there, and I know it’s kind of dangerous right now, but I’d love to go and see it at some point.
What’s your favorite meal to cook or eat out? Hamburgers. 100%. My favorite burger place might be Red Robin.
Shout out to an ECC employee or peer! Mr. Scott and Mr. Rosa. They’re both really cool.
