Take a fast five today and learn more about Victoria Turner, technical services librarian. Turner began at ECC in 2022, but her career working in libraries began as a teenager in 1999. Since then, Turner has worked in both public and community college libraries. “I always loved going to the library as a child, so working at a library was a natural progression,” said Turner.

What should your colleagues know about your position at ECC? A few of my duties as a technical services librarian are coordinating the ECC Library’s book collection (print, electronic, and audio) and the video collection (DVDs, streaming). Cultivating these collections involves identifying, selecting, and acquiring new resources based on the needs of our diverse campus community. I also coordinate our book displays to highlight some of these resources. I love connecting people to information!
Where is the best place you’ve traveled, or where is somewhere you dream of going, and why? My favorite trip was when I snorkeled with wild manatees in Sarasota Springs, Florida. Manatees are very sweet, and I loved every minute of it.
Cats, dogs, or house plants? I have a cat named Echo and a rabbit named Banjo. Both are very high-maintenance, but I do love them. I also have 17 houseplants!
What is your favorite meal to cook or favorite dish to eat out? Enchiladas with rice and beans is my favorite food. Any filling, any kind of sauce, but it MUST be made with a corn tortilla. Oh, and don’t forget a side of salty, crunchy chips and salsa!
What’s your favorite spot on campus? The library’s new ‘New Books’ section. It is located on the library’s first floor, where the DVDs used to be. I love seeing all our latest titles in one centralized place—and I like it even more when I see other people browsing! If you haven’t had the chance to visit the New Books section yet, come by Building C and check something out! And don’t worry—we haven’t eliminated our DVD collection—it’s just moved a couple of ranges over.
