This week, take five minutes to learn more about our colleague Kelli Marlin. Marlin is the new Medical Assisting Program Director. She began at Elgin Community College this past year to help spearhead the brand new Medical Assisting program starting with classes this fall.
Marlin has worked as a Registered Medical Assistant for 16 years. Prior to joining ECC, she worked as the consultant for the Medical Assisting program as it was being developed while working at a Cancer Center as their Lead Medical Assistant. Throughout her years, Marlin has experience working in doctors' offices and clinical settings such as primary care and specialty practices, in addition to training many medical assistants over the years.
What was your first job ever? My first job was bussing tables at a local diner. I was 15 years old, and it was exhausting!
Cats, dogs, or house plants? All of them! I am a caretaker at heart, so I love having animals and plants to care for. We currently have a four-year-old labradoodle named Graham and several houseplants.
What is your favorite meal to cook or favorite dish to eat out? My husband usually does all the cooking; I am a disaster in the kitchen. My favorite dish he cooks is chicken marsala.
What’s your favorite spot on campus? My favorite spot is going to be the brand-new Medical Assisting Lab. It should be opening soon!
What’s on your playlist/podcast list? I love listening to true crime podcasts; my favorite is Crime Junkies. My favorite music is anything by Sarah Bareilles. Her voice is magic.
