James G. Allen, Jr., of Elgin, and Jenna Manzano, of Streamwood, will represent the students of Elgin Community College in leadership positions for the 2021-22 academic year.

Allen was elected to serve a one-year term as student trustee through April 2022. He replaces Taylor Vitacco, who graduates from ECC this semester and will transfer to complete her bachelor’s degree in human development and family science at Northern Illinois University beginning this fall.

“I decided to run to help support the students' voices at Elgin Community College,” said Allen. “I want to focus on ensuring that every person, no matter race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or financial need will have a home in ECC to further their educational goals. Everyone deserves an opportunity to secure a better life for themselves and their family. I look forward to working with the Board of Trustees to ensure we can accomplish these and many other goals throughout the next year.”

Manzano was elected to serve as the president of the student government. She previously served as president of the Streamwood High School Class of 2020 and was an SHS representative for School District U-46’s student advisory board. Outgoing student government president Sandra Djou graduates in May with her associate in science.

“My goal is to create a comfortable space for students to network and have fun while they are at Elgin Community College because our college is a place for exploration and growth,” said Manzano.
