Students preparing for careers in fire service at Elgin Community College (ECC) will gain expanded hands-on training opportunities thanks to the donation of a 1995 Pierce fire engine from the North Aurora Fire District.

The donated fire engine will increase ECC’s Center for Emergency Services (CES) training fleet to two fire engines, one ladder truck, and one ambulance. It will be incorporated into the college’s fire science and safety curriculum and professional development.

"Hands-on training is essential in emergency services education, and this fire engine will allow our students to build the skills and confidence they need before entering the workforce,” said  Ronald Two Bulls, ECC’s senior director of academic programming and public safety training.

“The addition of this apparatus strengthens our training fleet and enhances our ability to prepare future firefighters through realistic, scenario-based learning. We appreciate the North Aurora Fire District's partnership and commitment to developing the next generation of public safety professionals."

The apparatus will give students a chance to learn about the layout and functions of a working fire engine, from managing equipment to conducting coordinated response drills.

“The North Aurora Fire Protection District is pleased to see this engine placed into a program where it can continue to serve a meaningful purpose,” North Aurora Fire Protection District Chief Mike Klemencic said. “It is our hope that this resource enhances hands-on training opportunities for local students, providing practical, real-world experience that complements their classroom instruction. Ultimately, we believe this contribution will support Elgin Community College’s fire program, helping ensure the next generation of firefighters enter the fire service prepared to serve their communities safely and effectively.”

The donation reflects a shared commitment between ECC and the North Aurora Fire District to strengthen the region's public safety workforce by providing students with the tools, experiences, and training needed to succeed in the profession.
