Gov. Pritzker Celebrates ECC’s New Manufacturing & Technology Center

Gov. JB Pritzker shared a special video message with Elgin Community College community, congratulating the college on the opening of its new $88 million Manufacturing & Technology Center and recognizing its role in preparing students for careers that are shaping the future of the economy.

“Demand for career and technical education is growing, and Elgin Community College is meeting the challenge, discovering employers’ needs and providing the facilities and equipment to train their workforce,” Pritzker said in the video.

The 150,000-square-foot facility, which officially opened in August and was celebrated with a grand opening September 24, 2026, provides students with modern laboratories, equipment, and technology for education and training in advanced manufacturing, robotics, welding, HVAC, industrial maintenance, green energy technology, and other high-demand fields.

Pritzker highlighted the center’s connection to both students and the regional business community, noting that its training prepares students for good-paying jobs while supporting employers seeking skilled workers.

“That matters here in Kane County, where manufacturing is one of the region’s largest employment sectors, and it’s growing,” Pritzker said. “This facility is an investment that will pay off for generations.”

ECC President Peggy Heinrich, EdD, said the governor’s message underscores the significance of the MTC and the collaborative effort that made the project possible.

“We are grateful to Gov. Pritzker for recognizing the importance of this investment in our students, our employers and our region,” Heinrich said. “The Manufacturing & Technology Center is a powerful example of what can happen when education, industry, government and our community work together to prepare people for opportunity.”

Pritzker concluded his message by congratulating ECC’s students, faculty, staff and community partners on the achievement.

“The future is right here, and you are making it happen,” Pritzker said.
