Elgin Community College Recognized by Achieving the Dream as a 2026 Leader College

Elgin Community College (ECC) announced March 4, 2026, that it has been designated a 2026 Leader College by Achieving the Dream (ATD), a national organization committed to advancing community colleges as accessible hubs of learning, credentialing, and economic mobility.

“We are honored to be named a 2026 Leader College by Achieving the Dream,” said ECC President Peggy Heinrich, EdD. “This recognition reflects the intentional, data-informed work happening across our campus to remove barriers, close equity gaps, and ensure students complete credentials that lead to meaningful careers. Our new Manufacturing and Technology Center is a powerful example of that commitment — aligning high-demand workforce training with student success so our graduates are prepared to thrive in today’s economy and strengthen the communities we serve.”

Leader Colleges are recognized for meaningful progress in expanding access; improving early momentum metrics, such as retention; advancing relevant student success strategies with evidence of implementation and early results; and growing institutional capacity through culture and capacity-building efforts. 

ECC has been part of the ATD Network since 2009 and has held Leader College status since 2012.
