Author and professor Sara Levine will visit Elgin Community College (ECC) on Thursday, October 29, as part of the Writer’s Center Reading Series. Levine will lead a workshop at 2 pm in Building C, Room C120, followed by a reading from her novels at 6 pm in Building B, Room B181.
“How do writers control the speed of a story? How do you know when to speed up and when to slow down? I’m excited to talk to the Elgin community about what I call clockwork—the specific techniques writers use to manipulate the passage of time,” Levine said about what she looks forward to most when visiting ECC.
Both events are free and open to the public. ECC is located at 1700 Spartan Drive in Elgin.
Levine is the author of the novel “The Hitch” and “Treasure Island!!!”, as well as the short story collection “Short Dark Oracles.” Her novel “The Hitch” follows a woman who finally gets the chance to spend time with her nephew, only to discover that he has been possessed by a demon corgi. The New York Times Book Review called the work “winningly zany!”
Levine earned a Ph.D. in English Language and Literature from Brown University and was awarded a Mellon Fellowship in the Humanities. She teaches creative writing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and publishes Delusions of Grammar, a monthly newsletter on Substack.
Individuals interested in attending the workshop or reading are encouraged to reserve a spot through ECC’s Writers Center.
