Project Backpack Returns August 2: Seeking Donations, Volunteers, and Community Partners

Project Backpack, the annual community-based initiative led by Elgin Community College (ECC) and local partners, returns Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin, Ill. This in-person event provides backpacks and essential school supplies to students and families in need to help ensure a strong start to the school year.

How You Can Help

Community members, businesses, and organizations are invited to support Project Backpack in several ways:

• Make a Monetary Donation: Every contribution helps provide students with the tools they need to succeed.
• Volunteer: Volunteers are needed to help assemble backpacks on Wednesday, July 30 and Thursday, July 31, and to assist during the event on Saturday, August 2.
• Host an Agency Resource Table: Nonprofit and for-profit organizations are welcome to participate and connect with families at the event. There is no fee for nonprofit agencies. For-profit agencies are asked to make a $150 donation to participate.
