Elgin Community College Welcomes 2025 Newly Elected Board Members, Student Trustee

Elgin Community College (ECC) is pleased to announce the election of James Allen and Melissa Barbosa-Guzman to its Board of Trustees, along with the election of Daniel Gidlund of Algonquin as ECC’s new student trustee. These newly elected members will help guide the college’s mission of improving lives through learning and continue ECC’s commitment to student success, academic excellence, and community engagement.

Allen and Barbosa-Guzman were officially seated during a special board meeting on Monday, April 28. Each trustee will serve a six-year term as part of ECC’s seven-member governing board. Gidlund was elected by the student body and will serve a one-year term, representing ECC students in all public board discussions.

During the same meeting, ECC Trustee Jennifer Rakow was appointed chair of the board. 

The ECC Board of Trustees is responsible for establishing policies that govern the college and ensuring that the institution meets its district's educational and workforce development needs. Trustees collaborate closely with ECC’s administration to uphold the college’s high standards of quality and innovation.
