The Elgin Community College (ECC) Arts Center is proud to sponsor a food drive once again, benefiting Spartan Pantry, which provides essential support to ECC students and community members facing food insecurity.
Did you know that 43% of college students experience some degree of food insecurity? This percentage is higher (50%) for students attending community colleges.
Last year, the ECC Arts Center collected nearly 1,500 donations. This year, we’re aiming even higher, to double that number and make even a greater impact.
Before each performance at the Arts Center, patrons can bring non-perishable food items, toiletries, and household essentials to be dropped off in front of the Box Office in Building H. Donations can also be made on non-show days from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
The need for community support is more urgent than ever. In July, Congress passed legislation that includes nearly $200 billion in cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). These cuts are expected to significantly reduce access to food assistance and more than double the number of people relying on food pantries, like Spartan Pantry.
Join the ECC Arts Center and continue to be generous in your support of Spartan Pantry, helping to ensure that ECC students have access to the essentials they need.
