Throughout March, Elgin Community College (ECC) has held many different events, activities, and discussions in honor of Women’s History Month. To conclude the monthlong celebration, Meg Bucaro, author of “Put Your Big Girl Pants On….And Other Power Moves,” came to share key insights into her book, share personal stories about what drove her to write it, and answer questions.

Bucaro is also an adjunct faculty member in ECC's Communications Studies department. During the event, she shared with audience members what gravitated her toward communications and how she gained confidence in that field.

“I started noticing how people communicate confidence,” Bucaro said. “When women take up less space, we feel less powerful. There were these puzzle pieces that kept coming into my life to [help me] realize women can be powerful.”

Bucaro recalled a moment when she honed in on her confidence at 22 years old. While working in a corporate setting, she had that realization, which led to an important life lesson and the basis for her book. “You don’t have to be in power to communicate powerfully,” she said.

Five audience members won a free copy of Bucaro’s book at the event after individuals asked Bucaro questions on self-confidence in the workplace and their lives. You can purchase her book by visiting her website here
