2024 - Elgin Community College Sees Highest Fall Enrollment in Eight Years

Elgin Community College (ECC) is proud to announce a significant increase in fall enrollment, marking the highest numbers the college has seen in eight years. Fall 2024's current student enrollment is more than 10,000, a 7% increase from fall 2023 (as of census date).

Enrollment this fall also surpasses pre-pandemic enrollment levels by 3%. This achievement underscores the college’s commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education that meets the needs of its diverse student body. 

ECC has been designated a Hispanic Serving Institution by the U.S. Department of Education since 2009. Additional enrollment highlights for the fall 2024 semester include a rise in ECC’s Hispanic/Latinx student population, which has surged by 30% since fall 2018, reaching 52% of the total enrollment for the fall 2024 semester. ECC currently has 5,329 Hispanic students enrolled. This is the fastest-growing student demographic at the college, reflecting ECC’s commitment to serving the diverse needs of its communities.

Additional enrollment highlights:

  • Adult basic education programs increased by 1.4% since the fall of 2018. Current enrollment (as of census date) is 216 students.
  • +14% growth in career and technical programs, with the highest growth in:
    • Nursing (79% since fall 2018)
    • Paralegal (225% since fall 2018)
    • Massage Therapy (450% since fall 2018)
  • Dual credit enrollment increased by 229% since fall 2018, with a record-high 1,176 students earning college credit while still attending high school either in their home school or on ECC’s campus.
