Elgin Community College recently received high honors from the Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA) with three state-level awards and an equity and diversity award.
President David Sam, PhD, JD, LLM, participated in the ICCTA’s June 7 awards banquet and was awarded the 2024 Advocacy Award. This award is given to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in advocating for the needs of students and the Illinois community college system.
"It is an incredible honor to receive the 2024 Advocacy Award. This recognition underscores the collective efforts of our entire community in championing the cause of accessible and equitable education for all," Dr. Sam said.
The college also received the Equity and Diversity Award, which recognizes exemplary commitment by an Illinois public community college board and its chief executive officer to achieve diversity, equity, and inclusion in its education programs.
Diane Kerruish, senior executive assistant to the president, received the Professional Board Staff Member Award from ICCTA. This award recognizes exemplary performance in supporting an Illinois community college board of trustees.
Additional individual honors went to ECC Board of Trustees Chair Donna Redmer, who earned her fourth Trustee Education award from participating in more seminars offered by ICCTA.
