2023 - ECC baseball player and alum named to NJCAA Gold Glove Team

The 2023 NJCAA Division II All-North Central District/Region 4 Rawlings Gold Glove Team named Elgin Community College's Erik Teran II Gold Glove First Baseman. The Gold Glove goes to the top position player with the best fielding percentage in their respective position in the Region.

“It means a lot to be named a gold glove winner,” said Teran. “I wouldn’t have thought I’d win this, but I am extremely grateful. I couldn’t have done it without my teammates and coaches.” Teran played for the ECC baseball team for two years, finishing his final season strong this past spring. “I’m just glad I could add another trophy to ECC’s collection during my time here.”

Teran posted a .994 fielding percentage by making just two errors in 346 total chances with 327 putouts. He ranked sixth in the Region in total chances and putouts, ninth in double plays (17), and 17^th in fielding percentage.

Baseball has been a part of Teran’s life since he was four. When Bill Angelo, ECC athletic coordinator and baseball coach, offered him a chance to play, he was excited to continue his passion for the sport at the collegiate level. “Erik was an extremely hard worker and a great teammate. I was excited that he was chosen as the top first-basemen in the Region this year,” said Angelo. “He deserves the award; he played exceptional first base defense this season and saved our infielders numerous times. Erik will be tough to replace, but we wish him well as he moves on in his academic career.”

Teran will be starting this fall at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Although he’ll hang up his glove as a Spartan, he plans to keep sports in his life by pursuing kinesiology, hoping to work as an athletic trainer for a professional or college team.
