Dana Cornwell receives the 2023 Dr. David Sam Award from Elmhurst University

Elmhurst University selected Elgin Community College graduate Dana Cornwell of Algonquin as the 2023 Dr. David Sam Award winner. Cornwell receives a $3,000 scholarship and is eligible for transfer scholarships from Elmhurst. Cornwell graduated from ECC in the spring of 2023 with an Associate in Arts degree. At Elmhurst University, Cornwell plans to major in psychology.

“This scholarship means so much to me academically and financially because it gives me a shot to explore and pursue my future interests with a school that I am head over heels for,” said Cornwell. “This is very special, and I couldn’t be more grateful for this opportunity. I am excited to see the doors this new journey will open.”

The Dr. David Sam Honorary Scholarship was established in 2019 in recognition of Dr. Sam’s commitment to collaborating with the college, his passion for education, and his dedication to students. The scholarship recognizes students who deeply value their education and demonstrate the resilience needed to overcome hardships or obstacles on their educational journey. For eligibility, applicants must have good academic standing at ECC and have been admitted into Elmhurst University. Scholarship seekers must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree for the first time and submit an essay.
