Registration for summer credit classes at Elgin Community College is underway and will continue until the first day of classes for each summer session, beginning on June 6, June 13, and July 11, space permitting. New students can learn more about summer registration on the ECC Website. Registration for the fall 2022 semester is also open.
ECC classes will be offered online, hybrid, and face-to-face, so students can choose the format that best fits their needs.
Course delivery definitions:
- Online asynchronous: Online-asynchronous courses are delivered 100 percent online, with no face-to-face sessions required. Classes are taught entirely online following instructor timelines and learning outcomes. Students interact mostly through discussion boards and written messages; all assignments are submitted online.
- Online synchronous: Online-synchronous courses are delivered 100 percent online with real-time specifically scheduled online interaction with the instructor and/or class. These classes allow for engagement in a remote classroom environment.
- Hybrid: Hybrid courses combine both face-to-face and online instruction.
- Face-to-face: A small number of courses that do not lend themselves to online delivery may be held fully on campus. This format is the traditional on-campus instruction where students and instructors meet in the same physical location at a scheduled time and day, but with reduced classroom capacities and COVID-19 safety protocols in place.
There are three summer sessions, with classes beginning in the weeks of June 6, June 13, and July 11. Fall semester daytime and evening traditional 16-week classes begin the week of August 22. Early registration is advised to get the best selection of courses and times.
ECC student-athlete Nikolas Panico has taken up to nine credit hours over the summer, helping him stay on course to graduate and manage his time playing on the ECC baseball team. “Taking summer classes is really beneficial because the semester is shorter, and you’re also freer to do things. It helped me take my calculus class and finish my English 102 class, which was very nice to knock out a 10-page paper over the summer and not in the middle of the fall or spring semester with other classes going on,” said Panico. “By taking summer classes, I was able to stay ahead, so I am able to graduate on time.”
ECC offers significant federal and college-based financial aid to help defray expenses and make attending ECC even more affordable. The ECC Foundation provides over 200 student scholarships worth thousands of dollars based on financial need, career areas of study, and academic and leadership excellence. Current and prospective students are encouraged to email ECC’s Financial Aid and Scholarships Office to learn more and determine their federal financial aid and grants eligibility. Financial aid staff can be reached at financialaid@elgin.edu.
