Tommy Hensel will join the Elgin Community College Arts Center as its new Senior Director of Performing Arts. Hensel brings more than 30 years of working professionally as a director, actor, and arts presenter. “The program has a strong national reputation as one of the best college-based presenting programs in the country,” said Hensel on his interest in taking on the role.
Hensel plans to make his first priority as Senior Director spending time with the Arts Center team to understand what currently works well and where he can help with improvements. He will also assess the programming for the past decade to understand the ECC Art’s Center’s vision. “Every presenter has a unique vision of programming, so I do know that mine will likely differ from what has been done in the past, but that can only be successful if I build that vision on a clear understanding of what has already been done,” said Hensel.
Hensel sits on the board of North American Performing Arts Managers and Agents (NAPAMA), an organization dedicated to promoting the best interests of performing arts agents and managers through leadership, professional development, and alliances in the performing arts industry. A 14-year resident of Chicago, he also is a writer for “Your Chicago Guide,” where his primary focus is reviewing restaurants.
