Make summer classes part of your plan at ECC.

Registration for summer credit classes at Elgin Community College is underway and will continue until the first day of classes for each summer session, beginning on June 7, 14, and July 12, space permitting.

In a continued effort to prioritize the health and safety of ECC students, faculty, and staff, summer courses will continue to be primarily virtual, with select hybrid and in-person course sections. An increased number of hybrid and face-to-face courses will be offered for the fall semester.

Course delivery definitions:

  • Online asynchronous: Online asynchronous courses are delivered 100 percent online, with no face-to-face sessions required. Classes are taught entirely online following instructor timelines and learning outcomes. Students interact primarily through discussion boards and written messages; all assignments are submitted online.
  • Online synchronous: Online-synchronous courses are delivered 100 percent online in real-time, specifically through scheduled online interaction with the instructor and/or class. These classes allow for engagement in a remote classroom environment.
  • Hybrid: Hybrid courses combine both face-to-face and online instruction.
  • Face-to-face: A few courses that do not lend themselves to online delivery may be held entirely on campus. This format is the traditional on-campus instruction where students and instructors meet in the exact physical location at a scheduled time and day, but with reduced classroom capacities and COVID-19 safety protocols in place.

There are three summer sessions with classes beginning June 7, June 14, and July 12. Fall semester daytime and evening traditional 16-week classes start the week of August 23. Early registration is advised to get the best selection of courses and times.

ECC offers significant federal and college-based financial aid to help defray expenses and make attending ECC even more affordable. The ECC Foundation provides more than 200 student scholarships, worth thousands of dollars, based on financial need, career areas of study, and academic and leadership excellence. Current and prospective students are encouraged to email ECC’s Financial Aid and Scholarships Office to learn more and determine their federal financial aid and grant eligibility. Financial assistance staff can be reached at financialaid@elgin.edu.
