Elgin Community College will host a second Bill Pelz Global Speaker series titled “Afghanistan, ‘The Graveyard of Empires’: Lessons Learned?” on Tuesday, November 16, from 2 pm to 3:30 pm, as part of ECC’s International Education Week activities. This series is sponsored by the ECC Global/International Studies Taskforce (GIST) and the Multicultural and Global Initiatives Committee (MAGIC).
Featured panelists for the event include ECC faculty members Vincent Gaddis, PhD, professor of History and Political Science, and Irina Del Genio, PhD, associate dean of liberal, visual, and performing arts. They will lead a discussion surrounding the impact and lessons learned concerning the United State’s 20-year occupation and withdrawal from Afghanistan.
The Bill Pelz Global Speaker Series was named in memory of the late William Pelz, PhD, who taught history and political science at ECC for over 19 years. The event will be moderated by GIST co-chairs Christina Marrocco, PhD, associate professor of English and Lauren Nehlsen, PhD, associate dean, recruitment and outreach services and Center for Global Engagement.
