Some music has to be heard live. The Elgin Master Chorale joins the Elgin Symphony Orchestra for Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, a work of breathtaking scale, intensity, and beauty. Written by a composer grappling with faith, doubt, peace, and what it means to be human, the Missa Solemnis reaches for something far beyond the notes on the page. At times intimate and searching, at others overwhelming in its power, Beethoven pushes voices and orchestra to their limits in pursuit of something transcendent. Nearly two centuries later, the questions at the heart of this music remain profoundly our own.
