Overview
Communication Design professionals create powerful visual concepts using computer software and other equipment to inspire, inform, and connect with consumers. If you're the creative, problem-solving type who enjoys experimenting with color, typography, and new techniques in the latest photo editor, Communication Design may be for you.
ECC's Communication Design Department encompasses two visual disciplines: Graphic Design (incorporating Web Design) and Video Motion Graphics Design. Experience hands-on learning in small classes using the same technology professionals use in the field. Exceptional, industry-seasoned faculty guide you as you learn best practices, techniques, and trends through real-world simulated projects while you build your portfolio, so you'll be prepared for an exciting career when you've completed your coursework—looking for even more experience? Join the Spartan Design Club to work on design projects for real clients!
Jumpstart your new career and enhance your earning potential by completing an Associate of Applied Science degree in Graphic Design or Videography. If you're working in the field and want to master a new skill, we offer certificates for the Adobe Creative Suite, Internet Design, or Video Motion Graphics. You can even pursue an Associate in Arts degree that includes electives in Communication Design to transfer to and get a bachelor's degree.

The future employment outlook for Communication Design professionals is generally positive. Growth is driven by the continued demand for new and innovative designs in digital media, as well as an increase in the use of technology to create and disseminate visual information. The growth of e-commerce and the increasing popularity of social media platforms will also contribute to the demand for communication design professionals. However, the job market fluctuates like most fields, and candidates may have to remain flexible and versatile to secure jobs. Getting a job in Videography
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, video and motion graphic artists fall under the film and video editors and camera operators category. This job is projected to grow 12 percent from 2021 to 2031, much faster than average. About 9,400 job openings are projected each year, on average, over the next decade. (visited April 26, 202).
Employment for camera operators is likely to increase, with the demand for online streaming services and companies investing more heavily in video production.
Getting a job as a Web Developer and Digital Designer
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for Web Designers is projected to grow 23 percent from 2021 to 2031, which is much faster than average. Roughly 21,800 job openings are projected each year, on average, over the decade. (visited April 26, 2023).
With online offerings and e-commerce continuing to grow, the demand for web designers will continue to increase.
Getting a job in Graphic Design
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for Graphic Designers is projected to grow by 3 percent from 2021 to 2031. Over the decade, about 24,800 job openings are projected for graphic designers each year. (visited April 26, 2023).
