Adult Basic

The Testing Center at ECC helps determine which classes are best for you at the Adult Basic Education Center. Ensuring you're placed in the right class for your skills is important. You can choose to take the test on campus or from home.

To take the ESL or Illinois High School Diploma test, you need an ECC student ID number. A valid email address is also required. If you don't have an ECC ID number, you must fill out a form. Someone from the staff will contact you to help. If you forget your password, we can assist with that, too!

Placement Test Registration

1. Register for testing. Both on-campus and remote options are available.
2. Choose Type of Exam:
   • English as a Second Language (ESL) Programs
   • State of Illinois High School Diploma Programs
3. Choose an Exam:
   • Pre-tests are for students who are newly enrolled in the academic year
   • Post-tests are for students who are currently enrolled and have completed 40 hours of coursework
4. Schedule your exam(s) based on your availability.
5. Attend the exam and receive a QR code from your orientation for class placement.
