Advanced Steel Ensemble
Overview
This course builds on one's foundational steelband skills through the performance of intermediate and advanced level repertoire drawn from calypso, soca, reggae, and popular music. Students will refine their technical and ensemble abilities, explore improvisation and stylistic interpretation, and gain a broader understanding of the cultural roots and evolution of the steelband. Emphasis is placed on listening, collaboration, and expressive performance. Special Note: The band is open to all qualified adults as well as college and high school students. Students may choose to participate in the ensemble earning college credit (enrolling in MUS-222) or for personal interest (enrolling in CSX-222).
