Time Off to Vote

Administrative Procedure 5.505

Elgin Community College encourages employees who are citizens of the United States to vote in elections. If it is impossible for an employee to vote before work or after work, the College will permit the employee to use a maximum of two hours of paid time off to vote during working hours. The employee should inform his or her supervisor about utilizing this benefit at least two days before Election Day.

To be compensated for the time off, an employee must show his or supervisor a voter's receipt the first workday after the election.

If federal, state, and/or local governments determines that Election Day will be a paid holiday within any given year, ECC will follow the guidelines as approved in Administrative Procedure 5.201 (Paid Holidays). The law and Administrative Procedure 5.201 will supersede this procedure.
