Jury Duty
Administrative Procedure 5.305
Elgin Community College recognizes the responsibility of all citizens to accept assignment to jury duty unless excused. Therefore, leave will be granted to full-time employees called to jury duty, according to the following procedure.
- Full-time personnel employed on a regular basis and not included in an employee organization having a collective bargaining agreement with the College who are called/subpoenaed as witnesses or jurors will notify the appropriate supervisor as soon as possible after being called/subpoenaed.
- Called/subpoenaed employees required to serve as jurors or appear as witnesses during a scheduled workday will be paid their normal salary during this period, provided the employee promptly reimburses the Board any monies paid for such service.
- Nothing herein will be construed to require the College to pay any personnel for appearance at a criminal proceeding in which said personnel is a criminal defendant, nor for appearances in civil proceedings in which said personnel is a party.
